NFT studio Yuga Labs co-founder leaves project

One of the founders of the studio-developer of non-exchangeable tokens Yuga Labs, known under the pseudonym Gordon Goner, has left the project

The founder of the NFT studio Yuga Labs, known for the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) collection, under the pseudonym Gordon Goner (Wiley Aronov) announced his departure from the project. On his Twitter account he announced this. The reason for his departure was heart failure, Aronov claims.

According to him, heart problems have already led to the fact that he can’t play with his dog or do sports. Otherwise, Aronov continues to lead a “normal life,” but his health problems are “progressing quite rapidly,” he admitted. Aronov will remain on the board of Yuga Labs as a strategic advisor.

Yuga Labs was founded by Greg Solano and Wiley Aronoff in 2021. Since then, the project has raised $450 million in investment from various venture capital funds, including a16z. In March 2022, Yuga Labs acquired the rights to CryptoPunks and Meebits, expanding its portfolio of NFT collections.

Meanwhile, Yuga Labs has filed a lawsuit against the NFT artist. The studio claims that the artist violated its intellectual property rights. The lawsuit has already caused confusion over who owns the rights to the NFT token images in the BAYC collection. Legal representatives for Yuga Labs argue that ownership remains with NFT Studios, although Yuga Labs previously said it would transfer all commercial rights to the images to the owners of the NFT collection tokens.

Analysts at venture capital firm Galaxy Digital say Yuga Labs is lying to its investors. In a study published in August 2022, they claim that the studio is one of the NFT issuers that has “misled” investors about its intellectual property rights. Galaxy believes that Yuga Labs is only selling a “license” to use NFT, not the digital works themselves.
